15th flr, Teleperformance Bldg, San Miguel Ave, Ortigas
I'm writing this to join the pool of people who wrote this in their blogs. They saved my butt. This is to return the favor, and for those who had received the mysterious (and suspicious) phone call.
Actually, they called me up 2 times this year. But after I read people's posts, I remembered something. They called me 3 times!
The first one was when I was a freshman in DLSU Manila. I forgot the caller's name but he said I was referred by a "friend" (I won't mention her name, but he got her full name correct). He said we were close (CORRECTION: I didn't like her, and I'm just being civil with her). He also said a bunch of nice stuff about me.
I was pretty dumb at that time. And I didn't googled it. Well, maybe because Google wasn't popular back then.
Here's the address he gave me:
15th flr, Ericsson Bldg, San Miguel Ave, Ortigas
Company Name He Gave: Synergy Global International
My dad brought me to the place. It was like 1:30PM, Saturday. We didn't know about the scam thing. The building has this huge Ericsson sign at the top. When we arrived at the 15th floor, the presentation was about to start. They had NuSkin beamed against the white wall from the projector. My dad quickly grabbed my arm and said, "Let's go. It's just those networking businesses." Then we left.
I didn't understand it before, but now, I do.
After 4 years, I received the same call again. It was this last July (or August). I completely forgot all about my freshman experience. But I declined the offer since I wasn't really interested and I was busy when they called me up.
Then they called me up yesterday, around 5:10PM. "Catherine" called me up telling me she was pleased with my resume, and I was referred to by someone at DLSU. I had graduated for a year already (but I started to look for work early this year only). She asked if I can go to her office for an interview. I said I was at work. She asked where I was working and what my office hours was. She suddenly asked if I can drop by 6:30PM the next day. I said I can't make it and so, she offered this Saturday, 1:30PM. Hello, it's Oct. 31!
"I'll see. Can you text me the details?" That was my last word to her. So she texted me the address.
Here's the address she gave me:
15th flr, Teleperformance Bldg, San Miguel Ave, Ortigas
Company Name She Said: NSE International
I texted my friend about me getting a call offering me part time. But I had a gutt feeling that it was a scam. He told me I might get overloaded with work, so I better rethink about it.
Since I'm currently not so busy at work now, I googled it. All I saw were rants.
Things I noticed when they called me up (haha, after 3 calls):
- They will say that you referred to by a friend or school
- They like your credentials/resume
- You sound professional and you won't bail out on them
- Other fancy, nice compliments
- They'll say that they are a US-Based, multinational company
- They talk fast. I asked "Catherine" to repeat what the company name was, she spoke very fast that it's so hard to catch.
- Offer part time job. Flexible time. 8-10hours a week. With good compensation. 20k-30k a month.
- They'll ask you to come in Business/Corporate Attire, but won't tell you to bring a copy of your resume.
To end this, I just texted her a while ago. To be professional, I just said that I can't make it this Saturday.
Why I decided not to go? After reading some of the stories about this call, I thought, "Hey! I don't think I deserve that kind of work." Not being arrogant or anything similar to that.
Oh, Other variants of the building name: Octagon Bldg.
Short Information on the company: It's a multi-level marketing (a.k.a. PYRAMIDING SCAM) company of Pharmanex/Nu Skin. What's more - they lure people to come into their meetings/join the company by unethical means. Now, would you like to be a part of that?
